Black Sheep Exhibition Squadron model airplane club: Our high-end spiffy website

Welcome!  This website is just to provide public information about our club's meetings and activities.  We use a Yahoo group to exchange updates and scuttlebutt  between members.

The Black Sheep Exhibition Squadron is a "general interest" model club.  We build and fly all types of model aircraft, everything from helicopters to radio control to control-line and indoor scale.  We're not indecisive, we're inclusive!  The club members always have FUN with the hobby, and try not to take things too seriously.

The club was founded in 1976, when the TV series "Baa Baa Blacksheep" was popular.  The show depicted VMF-214, a famous WWII Marine fighter squadron.  The stars of the TV show (Like Robert Conrad) and the actual flying aces that they portrayed (like Pappy Boyington) were on the early membership roster.  Originally formed to present flight demonstrations at a Burbank city park event, the club has outlasted the show, and over the years we've acquired an eccentric reputation for building unusual models (and winning contests with them!) as well as being one of the nation's most active groups in working with schools and kids.  Our members have flown hundreds of miniature airshows for thrilled spectators across southern California.  we continue to sponsor and administer a middle-school wing of young aviators who enthusiastically learn about model aviation.

There is a club "business meeting" once a month, on the first Wednesday evening at 7:15 pm at Verdugo Park, in the log cabin.  We have show-and-tell with all types of model aircraft, and we hear information on recent and upcoming events, and we have a club raffle of modeling items.

A monthly indoor flying meet is in the Luther Burbank Middle School gym, second Friday from 6:30pm to 10pm.

A sub-group is the Old Farts Flying Club (OFFC).  These retired but jovial fellows meet at Stonehurst Rec Center each Wednesday morning at 9am.  Outdoor flying on the ballfield before the meeting, then doughnuts and a round-table discussion, followed by indoor flying in the small-but-cozy gym.  There is a monthly contest for various categories of model.  Competition is fierce but the level of sportsmanship is very high.

The monthly Black Sheep News covers all aspects of the club, and is available printed or emailed to members.

My fingers are tired of typing now, so I'll upload this section for now and update it later as needed...
